Nine 1980s Trends that should come back

The mullet is not one of them

Slap bracelets.

Now that we're adults, we know how slap bracelets hold their shape. But when we were kids, we thought they worked by magic - and honestly, we still prefer that explanation. Slap bracelets were always printed with fun (and very '80s) patterns, and left you with a fun tingle on your wrist and forearm that nothing else can quite match. They're yet another thing, along with clunky costume jewelry, to convince us that jewelry in the '80s was just plain fun.

Short skirts.

Again, these never went away. But we're seeing a lot more long skirts these days, and we like short skirts - they're cool and breezy, and nothing shows confidence like being unafraid to flaunt your legs!

Jewel tones.

Fun neon colors have come back, but we miss the warm, tasteful, sophisticated jewel tones of the 1980s. We miss plums and golds!

Corduroy.

It's fun and warm, and if you wear the pants they make the fun zhht-zhht noise. Corduroy should have never left us.

Taffeta dresses.

We're not talking about the demurely-cut taffeta dresses that you can buy off the rack today. We mean in-you-face creations with puffy sleeves and even puffier skirts, that rustle every time you move. Glitter, sequins, rhinestones, and starring roles in a John Hughes movie are all optional.

As the 1980s live on in this decade's fashions, designers are still turning up old crazes ... and who knows, if you pick up one of these again, you might be ahead of the fashion curve!
