how to make sure you get the best deals this holiday season

3) Keep track of the best time to buy

Retailers are experts on the typical holiday gift items - electronics, toys, clothes and tools. And you guessed it, they have very sophisticated strategies to try to get you to buy these items at a higher price.

Here's how not to fall victim and still save:

Electronics

- Wait as long as you can for these gifts.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are when you can get the best deals on electronics, just don't expect it to be top brands. However, the longer you wait to purchase these items the better the deal you are likely to get. This is because the 2016 models are launched in January around the Consumer Electronics Show.

Cookware

- cookware is actually one of the only products where the top buying season and best deals align

So go ahead and purchase cookware now until Thanksgiving, you'll get some great deals.

Tools

- You can find the best deals on tools now and right before Father's day, so go ahead and purchase that circular saw your husband claims he's going to use.

Toys

- Unless you're planning on buying toys on the hot toy list, hold off on buying toys until the first two weeks of December.

That's when the best deals are typically offered. Yaysavings bonus tip: resist the urge to buy toys on Black Friday unless they are 30-40% off.

Video Games

- Unfortunately, most of the new games come out right before the holiday season, so it's really hard to get a deal.

This is another item we recommend buying on Black Friday.

Apparel

-- Resist purchasing clothing on Black Friday unless you're getting at least 40% off or it's a clearance item.

Apparel deals tend to be better the closer you get to the holidays.

Fitness Equipment

- In my opinion, fitness equipment is one of the worst holiday gifts ever (nothing says you're fat like a treadmill under the tree).>/p>

Here's another reason to wait until after the holidays to purchase them, they are up to 50-70% off in January, so take my advice and buy her jewelry instead.

Apple products

- Here's another Yaysavings insider tip, typically, there is only one day when Apple products are on sale.

You guessed it, Black Friday. Trick is to pay attention to stores other than the Apple Store. Stores like Target, Walmart and Best Buy will have the better deals.
